AIR STRIPPERS

Air Strippers for water purification...

Branch provides custom built Air Stripper units for removal of voc, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and other volatile components from water. With our experience in complete systems, we can provide you with all of the related components and controls for a trouble free installation.

Counterflow Columns

Counterflow stripping columns are the most common design because of the high efficiencies that can be achieved, combined with the low air volume required.

Air volume is important, because in many cases the air will require further treatment before it can be discharged. The smaller the volume, the lower the supplemental equipment cost.

We offer designs using any of the available component suppliers. If you have a specific preference, we will be able to help you.

Principle of Operation

Air Stripping Columns rely on the relatively high volatility of some compounds compared to water. For example, volatile organic compounds such as Benzene will have very high vapor pressures compared to the water. By flowing the water containing Benzene and mixing it with an air stream, the Benzene will evaporate into the air.

By flowing the water down through a column, the air flowing up will capture the Benzene from the water phase and leave clean water at the bottom.

A low pressure blower installed near the bottom uses ambient air.

If a compound such as the VOC organics is removed, small quantities will be quickly destroyed in ambient air by sunlight, which is UV. Larger quantities can be either recaptured on vapor phase carbon or destroyed using a thermal oxidizer provided by Branch as part of the package.

Other dissolved gases such as Carbon Dioxide or Hydrogen Sulfide can also be removed using Air Stripping technology.

Where less volatile components are present or where extremely high efficiencies are required, higher temperature operation will provide the required results. Where necessary, instead of air, steam can be used for stripping. Branch also provides Steam Stripping technologies.
